Williams Hybrid Power (WHP) received further industry recognition last week when it won the Technology and Innovation Award at the Motorsport Industry Association’s (MIA) Business Excellence Awards at the NEC in Birmingham.

The annual awards dinner was held alongside the MIA’s European Cleaner Racing Conference, one of the most prestigious gatherings of the year for all involved in the British motorsport industry. The conference brings together high-performance engineering and opinion-leaders from across the sport to showcase green motorsport and, in particular, advances in alternative energy sources and sustainable materials.

The MIA award is the second specifically for WHP, the first received at the 2010 Professional Motorsport World Expo in Germany for Powertrain Innovation of the Year. Porsche’s 911 GT3 R Hybrid, integrated with WHP’s magnetically-loaded composite flywheel technology, has also received considerable industry recognition for its hybrid credentials having achieved noteworthy competition results in 2010, including a number of endurance race successes in Europe, Asia and the United States.

Ian Foley, Managing Director of WHP, commented, "Williams Hybrid Power are extremely pleased and honoured to win this award for Technology and Innovation associated with our MLC Flywheel Systems. The award is particularly gratifying as it shows peer and indeed industry recognition for what has been a landmark year for WHP considering our technology is a core element of the hybrid drive system aboard the Porsche 911 GT3R Hybrid endurance racing car."

Williams Hybrid Power is also involved in a number of engineering projects concerned with the reduction of emissions in hybridisation of traditional combustion-based drivetrain solutions for a wide range of applications from passenger cars to city buses and trams.
